Recap

I know my blog's been dead for a while, though I'm very much alive, seeing that my classes haven't commence yet. And since Shien Yin had updated hers after being pestered by me, I might as well update mine. So...

Monday: Officially checked in my hostel in the evening, around 4.40pm. Surprisingly, I found my room void of human life (my roommate was taking A Levels and that course started a week before orientation) and coated with dust, which was due to the repainting of the walls and replacing the carpets with tiles. Lucky me (about the tiles, I mean). My room had a long wall-to-wall desk by the window flanked by 2 black plastic chairs, 2 single beds on each side (mine's on the right against the wall painted baby pink), at the foot of my bed were 2 cabinets facing each other with an angle of 90º between them and at the foot of the other bed were a wooden shoe rack and a greenish plastic rubbish bin. Good luck with picturing it.

Had dinner with Zhi Shan at a shop outside the campus that night since I hadn't had any friends yet. Then went to a bakery to buy a bread for breakfast before heading back to hostel where I spent the rest of the night finishing City of Ashes. And I did, which I regretted coz it made me depress and remorseful the whole night. To City of Ashes readers: Isn't it frustrating that both books should end on such a heart-stabbing key? First, Jace turned out to be Clary's brother. Then, Jace just wanted to love Clary as a sister. Gah!

Tuesday: First day of orientation and still feeling depressed. The whole day was technically briefing, briefing and more briefing. Went for lunch at McDonald's with another 'Freshy' like myself, though she's taking Food Science & Nutrition and is a year older than me. She took her A Levels at Taylor's before coming to UCSI. Walking all the way back to the campus was excruciatingly tiring but who cares coz, heck, it helped me to burn off some calories gained from lunch. After we were dismissed, Jee Ween and I sneaked in the library and hid there till it was time for her to go home.

Around 6.45pm, I joined a group of 12 (2nd year A Levels students and JPA Scholarship holders) for a Bak Kut Teh dinner. Actually, I got invited by 1 of them after my mom embarrassingly introduced me to some of them at the lobby (you know what an introvert I am). Anyway, by the end of the dinner, I still hadn't got half of their names coz apparently they called each other by ever-constantly-changing nicknames, though I know 1 of their Chinese name had the same pronunciation as mine so it was kind of awkward when I kept looking up everytime I heard my name. Went to bed rather early since I didn't have any book to occupy my time.

Wednesday: Second day of orientation. A little less briefings and tons of club presentings. After lunch, we split according to our Faculties and went to choose our subjects. I got a feeling the Faculty of Music had the least freshies. Anyway, I waited for ages before it was my turn to discuss my course with Prof. Juan. Lucky for me, my maximum amount of Credit Hours for this semester is 18 so other than Malaysian Studies, I didn't need to take other non-music electives. The online course selection only took me about 10 minutes then when I was done, my dad came to pick me and home I went!

Friday: 2nd attempt on driving exam. *Sucks in a deep breath* I passed! I passed I passed I passed! IFUCKINGPASSEDIT!!! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!

Hopefully I can update a little earlier next week, maybe once I get my student ID and can legally log on to the internet using the library computers. Till then, tata~

Paaaartayyyy!!!

I so wish I could swim yesterday. I've been looking forward to soaking in a pool for weeks and what did I get? An unexpected arrival of the P. So I ended up perching on the edge of the pool, with my jeans rolled up and half my legs dipped in the water, watching my friends swim. It sucked, ok? Even though I have Lucy to accompany me.

But other than that, the poolside party at Jo's was a blast! We had like, heaps of food (it was potluck and since everyone brought a little something and there were 17 of us...yeah): junk food (packets of chips), spaghetti, fried mee hoon, 2 16-pieces boxes of doughnuts, pizzas, drinks and nuggets, marshmallows and potatoes for BBQ. For me, food is the key to get a wild party started!
More importantly, we had 2 birthday babies, not to mention 2 more April babies, amongst us! Happy Birthday to Chee Kin! And Happy Belated Birthday to Lucy, Jyh Ling and Hui Yi (really sorry and please tell me if I spell your name wrongly)!

Spent most of my time sitting by the pool, either just chatting or eating and chatting with my gang and others as well. It was really nice, seeing and catching up on each other again. Then the peak of the party came when it was dark and after Jo returned from her mysterious disappearance. Jo Yee mixed Sprite and orange juice with some VODKA. But it was only a little, little enough to keep me sober till I reached home. Amanda, on the other hand, went all red in the face, even though the percentage of alcohol was almost nil. So tomato-ish...haha

After that it was all about photos. Crazy photos, wild photos and tons of cam-whoring. Everone seemed so eager to take a photo with the infamous, empty it may be, Vodka bottle. And Eu Chern (or was it Chee Kin) even suggested we had individual photos taken to advertise it =.="

Anyway, Amanda's mom came at around 10.10pm and I reached home about midnight coz my dad was hungry and took us out for supper, though I didn't eat much.

Yesterday and Today

Sooo...yesterday was the Anugerah Cemerlang 2008. The function went on as it should be, nothing unique, no surprises, except for the shock that I still remembered how to sing our school anthem. Gah. I'm too lazy to elaborate. I'll just allow the photos below entertain you people.

Jia Yi, Shien Yin, me, Siu Jeen and Sarah

Me, Joanna and Vania

Yi Ming, me and Li Kee (and no, you didn't look sleepy, Li Kee, you looked as awake as I was)

Siu Jeen, me and the 2 who decided pants would make them looked hotter: Jing Lynn and Shien Yin

Siu Jeen, me, Jing Lynn (a new fan of Meg Cabot, I think) and Sophia

Siu Jeen, me, Amanda, Denise, Joey and Jing Lynn

Me and Bin Yun

Joanna and me (Yes! She was really wearing a skirt and red checkered wedges, though you can't see from this photo! Jo, wear this sort of skirt more often, you looked nice in it yesterday)

Me and Mei Qi

Went to watch 'The Forbidden Kingdom' with sis and bro after the ceremony, which was supposed to end around 12noon but I ciao at 10.30am. The movie was comedy, as most of the movies with Jackie Chan in them would be, and the Shia LeBouf-look alike was rather good-looking at certain angles. It's not really a must-watch show, though it's good if you want something light and fun. Anyone want to watch 'Over Her Dead Body' with me?

As for today, nothing much interesting happened, just that my mom took me for a music therapy talk in Klang, which lasted for like, 3 hours and I was so bloody sleepy, thanks to the yoga class early in the morning (waking up before 8.30am these days is considered early for me). After the talk, my mom kept discouraging me to take up this course for my Masters coz well, I have to admit it too, it isn't an easy job. For one thing, I'll have to deal with problematic or special children, like Autism and Down Syndrome, with whom I must have no limited patience with coz most probably they won't even bother me or comprehend what I'm saying. For another, the career opportunity in Malaysia is like almost nil. Even hospitals, government and private ones, don't even recognize the use of music therapy. So that left with me working freelance. To make that sound worst, since 5 years ago till now, there're only 5 music therapist all together in Malaysia. FIVE. And most parents with special children don't even know they exist. Gawd. Maybe I'll just stick to lecturing if I one day get tired of performing and traveling.

Oh yeah, when I was on my way to the talk, I saw a house on fire! At first, it just looked like some idiotic scum conducting open burning. But as we got nearer, the smoke seemed thicker and thicker till we rounded the corner and saw it was actually coming from a house, which was totally burnt down and left nothing but the structure (aka 'bones')! It was really different, seeing a house on fire 'live', rather on newspaper, as you people would, on tomorrow's. And I got some photos from the scene since it was all jammed up for a while.

This guy's one heck of a talent! If he doesn't get signed and become a recording artiste, well, I'll be damned.

And now for the best: Jesse McCartney's version of Bleeding Love, which he co-wrote with One Republic's Ryan Tedder. It isn't the full song but it's hawt all the same.

Summary for the past few days

Haven't been updating my blog as I should be, considering the fact that there's actually something to blog about for the past few days. But since I'm too lazy to write a long windy post, I'll just summarize what had happened since my last post on Jesse and Gerard, including today.

Thursday: Nothing exciting happened, just the fact that the French class on that day was the last I'll ever have till I sign up for Level 2 or joined some French club at my college. I still can't speak fluent French yet, but I can read and write a little. Oh yeah, I got back my result for the French test that the teacher set for us, which was 36/40. Yay!

Friday: Let's just blank out the whole morning, shall we? My driving exam was a disaster. I'll just remember that morning as a nightmare and didn't wake up till 2pm. As for the evening and night, me, Lucy and Shien Yin went to Amanda's place to hang out. Took a lot of crazy photos that involved digging out all of Amanda's winter coats. In the end, we put up a night at her place and slept at 4am, with Lucy and me craving for grilled mutton with mashed potatoes.

Saturday: Went out with Amanda to shop for Lucy's, Chee Kin's, Xiao Chin's and Denise's birthday presents. Love the presents we bought for them, of which I've taken photos and really want to show them to you guyz but hey, the best part of presents is the surprise, right? Nevermind, I'll post the photos after the presents are given to the birthday babies. Oh, I've also bought a choker for myself! It was from Bonita and had 40% off!
The 40% off choker that I got myself

We tested the heart-shaped mould for fried eggs

My bro's idea of 'Shot through the heart'

Sunday: My grandparents came over and we went out for lunch. Okay, that practically sums up the whole day coz our lunch was long and they later stayed at our place for hours before going back.

Today: I baked cookies this afternoon! Well, I didn't bake it all by myself, my maid did the mixing (added butter and and egg to the ready-mixed flour), so I only shaped the dough and put them on the tray. Trays actually, there were plenty of dough. But by now, the cookies left are a quarter of what I baked. Yeah, they're that delicious.

The colourful 'beads' topping

The dough with added raisins and bits of almond

After

Okee, that's all for now.

Last driving lesson

So. This is it. This morning’s driving lesson was the last I’ll ever have before my exam. And I doubt I’m prepared for it. Shit. Though I’ll have to admit, today’s driving of mine improved a little, to say the least. Thanks to my dad’s 2 days of couching. You know, I think I would have understood the concept of driving faster and MIGHT actually enjoy driving if I’ve let my dad taught me. Of course, 1 of the reasons being he used English to explain everything to me, whereas for Mr. Eric, I would have to decipher (or worst, guess) the terms he was using before I comprehended what he was blabbering on and on about. For example, when he said, “换 牙”, I would be like, “Change wha?” Then after like 2 seconds (considered long if you were in mobile mode) only I went, “Oh. He meant the gear.” But by that time, he was already jabbering his head off about all that shit on not memorizing the steps and not concentrating when he was talking just because I didn’t change the gear in time. Sucks, right? I know.

The second reason is that my dad didn’t nag. At all. Even when I caused the engine to die TWICE (yeah yeah I know…I’m a horrible driver), he just told me to start the engine and try again, sometimes even helped me out with the hand-break and gear if I was in someone’s way. As for Mr. Eric, patience was his last reaction. So, since he couldn’t possible explode and scold me (me still being a Learner and all), he resorted to nagging. Man, can he nag. At first I didn’t completely believe Amanda that he could nag that much, but, thanks to Law of Attraction, I let him had the chance to do that during the following lesson, right after I allowed the bloody engine to die ONCE. When he started lecturing, it was 8.44am and what time did he end? Around 9.20am. No kidding. It was like he had bottled everything he wanted to say inside of him since my first mistake that morning and well, exploded. I didn’t want to be rude, so I just smiled when I assumed he was mocking my skills and nodded when he asked whether I understood what I was supposed to do, while in my mind, I was making up scenes of me, Amanda, Jing Hua, Joanna, Lucinda, Yeon Li, Eu Chern and Chee Kin on a vacation in Beijing or somewhere with snow. Yeah, I know, I’m skilled in multitasking.

Anyway, Mr. Eric took me (and Shien Yin) to the driving school where I switched to his wife’s car and she went to pick up another guy before leaving for the examination place in Klang. The guy, whose name I later learnt was James, looked like a mixture of Gabriel from CHS Band and Errand from my old English class. He did the talking for most of the journey there, though Mrs. Chin asked me questions before reaching his place. I like her a lot coz she was friendly and liked to joke, also, she understood how driving is like for Learners like me. She told me she didn’t have much confidence when she just started driving so she didn’t improve till later. That comforted me a little, I think.

After we reached there, she took us 1 round through the circuit (slope, parking then 3-point-turn) then let James drove while I remained in the passenger seat. Just as he got into the car, he went, “Huh? 我忘记怎样驾了worr…” Die. To make it worst, we were about to drive up a slope. *Gulp* But we made it to the top in 1 piece, though he stepped on the accelerator a little too hard had to break suddenly, causing both of us to be thrown forward. Thank God I didn’t have a concussion or something. I really hate head-bumps, which make me looked like I have a swollen brain.
But whatever. He pulled hand-break and turned to ask me, “你记得要按拿一个mar?” What the fuck? What kind of bloody question WAS that? Though I went, “Erm…the accelerator.”

“Oh yeah.” Oh God. Why didn’t I jump out of the car and excuse myself to the toilet at the beginning? But it was too late. He fiddled with the gadget but after he released the hand-break, the car engine died and rolled down the slope. Please may there be no car at bottom. Of course there wasn’t any. Though thanks to that, Mrs. Chin told me to get out and wait somewhere else. Hallelujah.

After 2 rounds, it was my turn. As I predicted I stalled the first time and because of that, I was made to go up and rolled down the slope a couple of times before I went on to parking and 3-point-turn, which was very spacious so it was easy to make the turn. I’m proud to say that both went smoothly, no knocking down any of the sticks or stalling or whatsoever. Cheers. Then, when it was James’ turn again, I went to register for the test driving and the exam itself.

Since the registration took an excruciating long time, Mrs. Chin brought James, then me, on the road to practice the roundabout and to recognize the route we would be taking for our exam. It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be, but it sure wasn’t as easy as the circuit test. And I’m beginning to detest roundabouts.

Just when I though I was done with 1 round, she took me for another round coz my number (22) was far behind. Noooo…The second time was a teensy-weensy better. I think.

I waited for the Indian guy to finish test driving the car while James went for his second time on the road. My car number plate was 2521 and you know what was the first thought that came into my mind? My grandma could use it to buy Toto. Haha.

Other than the car’s clutch pedal, which I had to release more than 3 quarters of it in order to get the car moving, the rest of the gadgets were rather loose, as in rather easy to press down for the accelerator and break pedal and I didn’t have to tug or push too hard on the gear handle. Good for me.

As we were about to clamber into the car, Mrs. Chin asked, “我这个星期五给你考, 好吗?” And I was like, “Huh?” Am I hearing what I thought I’m hearing?

“我已经帮你报名了,没有的换lor. 你要不要都要考, 知道吗?” What? WHAT?! She just went and register the exam for me for this bloody Friday without even consulting me? And it’s less than 5 days away! Oh my God! Fuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuck! What the hell am I supposed to do? Other than lay back and wait for the sky to crumble onto me? Oh yeah, book more lessons with Mr. Eric. Good idea. NOT. I think I’ll stick to my dad if I want to pass.
